Russian aircraft designers will create a powerful, long-range aircraft, which will compete with Boeing and Airbus. The emergence of Russian passenger liner was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin during his visit with Governor Alexey Gordeyev of Voronezh Aircraft Plant on Saturday, September 10.

Dmitry Rogozin explained that Russian airlines ceased to operate domestic passenger planes due to fuel inefficiency. It was planned to solve the problem through the creation of a new engine based on PD-14 engine.

- We will make this engine, we are investing money and controlling the implementation of the project. As a result, while designing and testing this engine we will receive a passenger liner, which will be more competitive than Boeing and Airbus.

Before the advent of the new engine, we arrived at the decision to modify aircraft IL-96-300 by engineering and design solutions, the Vice Prime Minister said. The aircraft can accommodate 370-400 passengers.

- We will make this plane by ourselves or in cooperation with China. We will have IL-96-400, which will meet our requirements both in long-haul flights to the Far East from the European part of Russia, and in charter flights to other countries during the holiday season, Dmitry Rogozin said.
