The New Year’s decoration of Lenin Square will be designed to resemble The Nutcracker ballet, said Mayor Vadim Kstenin at the government’s weekly meeting on Monday, October 21.

The mayor explained that the townspeople had a lot of complaints about the designs of the past years: the elements had been repeated from year to year, and the decorations were not vivid enough.

– Together with the Voronezh Region Government, we have developed a concept for the festive decoration of Lenin Square for the New 2020 Year’s celebration. Considering the fact that this year was declared the Year of the Theatre, everyone’s favorite New Year's fairy tale and ballet The Nutcracker was used as the basis of the concept. Its storyline formed the basis for the scenario implementation of the square’s space, and all the objects encountered by visitors in the course of their movement are theatrical performances. The funds have been allocated, the tenders have been held, everything is in progress, – said Vadim Kstenin.

An LED structure – an arch in the form of the inscription "2020" – will be placed from the side of the main entrance to the building of the regional government. The Nutcracker photo zones with the scene of the Nutcracker’s battle with the Mouse King, as well as the Carousel will be installed opposite the Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The final zone will be a fabulous ball around the New Year’s tree. There will be sculptures of ballerinas, snow-covered castles, lanterns in the form of glasses. A trade fair will operate in the center of the square; it will be designed as a magical palace.

The contract for the creation of the festive composition was concluded between JSC Voronezh Gorelektroset and Sovtekheko LLC. In Voronezh, this company conducted the installation of architectural and landscape compositions at the Garden City exhibition. The funding will amount to about 22 million rubles. The decorations can be reused.

Vadim Kstenin recalled that a new festive illumination had been mounted for the City Day in Voronezh this year. The decorations were in the form of light banners, consoles, pendants on the trees and their lighting. The illumination will function on the central streets and squares throughout the year on weekends and holidays.
