Ticket sales for the events of the 9th Platonov Arts Festival will begin at 10:00 on Friday, February 8. Tickets are available at specialized concert ticket offices in shopping centers, at the Chamber Theater, at the Philharmonic Hall, at the Opera and Ballet Theater, at the Voronezh Concert Hall. Tickets can be booked online on the festival website and on kassir.ru ticket operator (when buying tickets online, a service fee will be charged from 5 to 10% of the ticket price). Pensioners and students can count on a 20 percent discount upon presentation of documents, clarified the Directorate.

The festival will be held in Voronezh from the 1st to the 16th June. There will traditionally be several directions: “Theater”, “Music”, “Exhibitions” and “Literature”. The most interesting events of the theatre programme are in the selection of RIA Voronezh.

“Cosmos” Show 


When: June 1 and 2 at 21:30

Where: Admiralteyskaya Square

Age limit: 6+

Air Show “Cosmos” by the Spanish aerial theater Grupo Puja! will replace the traditional parade of street theaters, held on Prospekt Revolutsii in the previous years. The artists will show a performance with elements of sports aerial acrobatics and stunts at an altitude of 40 m. The show combines theater, live music, circus and dance. Free admission.

“Brothers and Sister”. Version 2015


When: June 1 and 2 at 14:00

Where: The Koltsov Drama Theater

Age limit: 16+

“Brothers and Sisters” play about the inhabitants of the village of Pekashino in the war and post-war years was staged by director Lev Dodin in the Maly Drama Theater in 1985. 30 years later, he created a new version of his production based on Fyodor Abramov’s prose with a youth cast. The play shows the post-war village life with its everyday affairs and worries: sawing, weddings, loggings, the return of men from the war. The production has an unusual format: it consists of two parts, each of which lasts three hours with an intermission, so that the audience will spend the whole evening with the characters.

The stage design was created by stage designer Eduard Kochergin, Head Designer of the Tovstonogov BDT. Voronezh citizens could get acquainted with his works for performances based on the works of Tolstoy, Chekhov and Dostoevsky at an exhibition of sketches and scenery in the Chamber Theater Gallery, which was held as part of Platonovfest in 2018.

“Vertical”


When: June 1 and 2 at 18:00

Where: The Opera and Ballet Theater

Age limit: 12+

“Vertical” performance by the French choreographer Mourad Merzouki will be staged in Russia for the first time. The world premiere took place in September 2018 at the Biennale de la danse in Lyon. Hip-hop is combined with aerial acrobatics in the performance. The special structure enables the artists to overcome gravity – the dancers climb the walls and “fly”. The performance is based on the music written by Armand Amar, a famous composer and arranger, the author of soundtracks for three dozen films and the winner of Cesar Award.

“Don Juan”


When: June 3 and 4 at 19:00

Where: The Voronezh Concert Hall

Age limit: 16+

People’s Artist of Russia Konstantin Raykin and Timofey Tribuntsev will play Don Juan directed by Yegor Peregudov. Molière’s comedy, released by the Russian State Theater Satyricon in the summer of 2018, was highly appreciated by critics.

The composition of the performance is based on a rotating tower, the invention of the director and the designer. The eternal dialogue between Don Juan and his servant Sganarelle, who warns “the voluptuary and the world bachelor” from new vices, takes place there. Both the axis of love, the line of life, and the vertical of death arise on the tower, accompanied by the music of Sergei Filippov and the lighting solution of Andrei Abramov.

“Kabbalah Sacred”


When: June 3 at 19.00, June 15 at 18.00

Where: The Chamber Theater

“Kabbalah Sacred” performance based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s work was created by director Mikhail Bychkov for the Platonov Festival. The work on the performance is being carried out, all the details are kept secret. It is only known that the role of Moliere will be performed by Honored Artist of Russia Kamil Tukaev.

“The Snail on the Slope”


When: June 5 and 14 at 19:00

Where: The Koltsov Drama Theater

Age limit: 16+

“The Snail on the Slope”, as well as “Kabbalah Sacred” of the Chamber Theater, will be included in the special Voronezh festival programme and will become an exclusive project. It was directed by Nikita Rak. The performance is based on the novel by the Strugatsky brothers.

“Per Te”


When: June 5 and 6 at 19:00

Where: The Opera and Ballet Theater

Age limit: 12+

Another Russian premiere, which will take place in Voronezh, is the play “Per Te”, combining comedy, clowning and acrobatics. An imaginary world of a brave young woman is represented on the stage. Her friends in armor — actors, acrobats, musicians — are fighting in a battle that all people will have to go through sooner or later. The Swiss director of the performances of Cirque du Soleil and the Olympic ceremonies Daniele Finzi Pasca dedicated the performance to his beloved wife Julie, who died in 2016, the year of the premiere of this show.

Voronezh residents first saw the works by Finzi Paski in “new circus” genre at Platonovfest.

“Cold Blood”


When: June 6 and 7 at 20:30

Where: The Voronezh Concert Hall

Age limit: 16+

“Cold Blood” performance by the Belgian theater became a sensation of the Edinburgh Festival in 2018. The actors are fingers that “dance” in miniature scenery. In order the viewers could see the action, the film director Jaco Van Dormael and choreographer Michèle Anne De Mey will make a film in front of the audience and project it on the big screen. The production will be shown in Russia for the first time.

Jaco Van Dormael is a well-known Belgian film director, winner of Oscar Awards for Best Foreign Student Film Maedeli-La-Breche (1980), the French Cesar Award for Best Film in Foreign Language and the Camera d'Or for “Toto the Hero” at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival). He has also received a BAFTA and a Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film festival, and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

“Russian Romance”


When: June 9 and 10 at 18.30

Where: The Voronezh Concert Hall

Age limit: 16+

People’s Artist of Russia Yevgeniya Simonova will play the role of the exhausted and majestic Sofia Tolstaya in “Russian Romance” by the Lithuanian director Mindagaus Karbauskis. The play tells about the life and work of Leo Tolstoy and his family, who are compelled to compete for the writer’s love with literary characters. Together with her sons and daughters, Sofia tries her best to win back from the Oblonsky and the Karenins room in her husband’s life and figure out whose story came first: her own one or the ones of his literary mistresses. The performance has been successfully played at the Moscow Mayakovsky Theater for the third season, has received STD awards and the Golden Mask in several categories.

VR_I


When: June 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 at 14:00

Contemporary dance piece in the immersive virtual reality of 20 minutes will be presented by the Swiss troupe VR_I (choreographer and director – Gilles Jobin). It is noted that this is the first choreographic piece in the world with total immersion.

The technology allows to immerse a person into a virtually constructed world and create a feeling of a total illusion of reality. Thanks to VR glasses and motion capture devices, viewers will enter a world inhabited by virtual dancers. People will be able to move freely and watch the characters or interact with them and with each other while inside the play. All the necessary equipment for viewing VR productions will be distributed in the theater.

“ASH”

“ASH” dance performance by French choreographer Aurélien Bory will be shown in Russia for the first time (it premiered in June 2018). The choreographer staged an exotic performance created in collaboration with Shantala Shivalingappa, one of the world’s most famous performers of traditional Indian dance Kuchipudi. This is a magic, mesmerizing solo about the fight of the human and the divine beautifully combines articulated poses with a sacred ritual.

Shantala is a dancer who has worked with renowned choreographers and directors since she was 13 years old. She used to be a member of Tanztheater Wuppertal troupe of Pina Bausch for a long time, and now performs on the most famous venues in Paris, London, USA.

His previous work “Plexus” staged especially for Kaori Ito, had great success at the Platonov Festival in 2016.

“Vano and Niko”


When: June 12 and 13 at 18.00

Where: The Voronezh Concert Hall

Age limit: 16+

The Shota Rustaveli State Academic Theater, Georgia, will show a performance from legendary director Robert Sturua, who has recently turned 80 years old. His works are on UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List among the best plays of all times. This time he wrote an adaptation of a book of stories by Erlom Akhvlediani, which became iconic in modern Georgia. 
 
This collection of metaphorical parables without any “fable morality” inspired the director to rethink the story of Vano and Niko, young people who are tired of being good and evil and have decided to change places: Vano becomes evil, Niko becomes good. The story became a way to create an emotional philosophical play about a paradoxical and unpredictable flow of life for the director. 

“Aphrodite”

A new play by Voronezh Chamber Theatre, staged by a famous Moscow director Elena Nevezhina, was commissioned by Platonov festival to commemorate Andrey Platonov’s 120th anniversary. The premiere took place in December 2018. The director carefully combined the text of the story “Aphrodite” and fragments of Platonov’s letters to his wife. The play tells about the love between a man and a woman in piercing Platonov language.
