The staff of the Voronezh Peskov Biosphere Natural Reserve found seven rare mushrooms on the trunk of a tree –representatives of the Volvariella bombycina species. The mushroom is included in the Red Book of the region, the Press Service of the natural reserve reported in Tuesday, October 2.

Volvariella bombycina grows on deciduous trees. The mushrooms got its name for “being covered with a special blanket“ – the volva. Specialists who study mushrooms consider Volvariella one of the prettiest agarics growing on wood.

Volvariella bombycina has been spotted in the region in five places. The species is common in Europe, Asia, Australia, North America and in Northern Africa.
