Art Director of the International Platonov Festival and the Voronezh Chamber Theatre Mikhail Bychkov became a member of the Council for Culture and Art under the President of the Russian Federation. Head of the State Vladimir Putin signed the decree for forming the new structure of the Council on Tuesday, November 20.

Personal success in arts and unconditional and professional authority were the criteria for inclusion in the Council. The Council has various functions: it helps the Presidential Administration draft laws, conducts meetings and conferences with public officers and discusses the topics offered by Chairman of the Council Vladimir Putin. Following the results of the sessions, the President usually forms the list of tasks.

The renewed Council includes 55 people. A part of them remains from the previous structure together with 28 new members. Among them, apart from Mikhail Bychkov, are film directors Fyodor Bondarchuk and Andrei Mikhalkov (Konchalovsky), public figure Natalia Solzhenitsyna, heads of music drama theaters Vladimir Urin, Dmitry Bertman and Vladimir Mashkov, Director of the Moscow State Circus Edgard Zapashny, head of major museums Zelfira Tregulova and Svetlana Melnikova, writer and literature theorist Yevgeny Vodolazkin, children’s writer Anastasia Orlova (Rogakh), composers and musical producers Igor Krutoy, Alexey Rubnikov and Igor Matvienko, music artist Polina Gagarina, Director of VGTRK Oleg Dobrodeev (The All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company), Rector of the Shchukin Theatre Institute Yevgeny Knyazev, and Director of the Moscow Philharmonic Alexey Shalashov.

Among the members remaining from the previous list are musicians Valery Gergiev, Yury Bashmet, Vladimir Spivakov and Denis Matsuev, theatre figures Alexander Karpin, Yevgeny Mironov and Valery Fokin, ballet dancer Svetlana Zakharova, Director of the State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky, sculptor Andrei Kovalchuk, documentary director Sergey Miroshnichenko, animation artist Alexander Petrov, choreographer Boris Eifman, heads of educational art institutions Nikolay Tsiskaridze, Semyon Mikhaylovsky, writers Alexey Varlamov and Valentin Kurbatov, Chairman of the Patriarchal Council for Culture and Metropolitan of Pskov and Porkhov Tikhon (Georgy Shevkunov), and others.
