Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded 33 year old Mikhail Ovcharenko, the Head of the youth club of the Russian Geographical Society under the auspices of the Belozorov Pogronesky Lyceum, with a certificate of merit. This was reported to the RIA “Voronezh” by Mikhail himself on Monday, May 7.

The awards ceremony took place as part of the session of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg on April 27. The President highly estimated the energetic work of the club in attracting the youth to scientific art in the geography field.

– It is pleasing that Vladimir Putin himself has noted out our efforts. In the future, we will keep executing active work in popularizing history and geography among children and youth. We will continue adding our contribution to the development of youth movement, - Mikhail Ovcharenko told.

The context

The Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) in the Voronezh Region was one of first to be created in Russia in 2016. It united school pupils, university students, teachers and public representatives interested in history, geography, ecology and local history. In 2017, the Youth Club of the RGS under the auspices of the Belozorov Pogronesky Lyceum (Podgornoe village, Rossoshansky District) had twice been at the top of the all-Russian rating of Society’s youth clubs.
