The Voronezh Regional Department of Health will purchase the domestic drug Avifavir developed for the treatment of the coronavirus. This was announced by the Regional Crisis Center on Monday, June 15.
If the drug proves to be effective, the region will decide on the purchase of a second batch.
“Despite the high cost of the medicine, we will continue to purchase it if our doctors evaluate its use in practice positively,” said Governor Alexander Gusev.
Avifavir is a modified version of the Japanese drug Favipiravir. According to the results of the first tests, its effectiveness reached 80%. The neighboring Belgorod Region ha also reported on the purchase of the drug. Lyudmila Krylova, Deputy Head of the local Department of Health, said at a briefing that 300 packs would cost the region 6.6 million rubles (the cost of one is 22 thousand rubles). At the same time, treatment with Avifavir is possible only in stationary conditions.
Since mid-March, 4660 people in the Voronezh Region have been diagnosed with COVID-19. In June, the incidence rate among pensioners has increased from 7.3% to 24.4%. 1986 patients were cured, 22 people died. The average age of those who died from the virus is 68.6 years.
Until June 21, the region operates in a self-isolation mode. The authorities of the region reminded that older people must absolutely adhere to it.
