Specialists of the Cardiac Surgery Center of the Voronezh Regional Clinical Hospital № 1 performed a surgery on a patient with a rare congenital anomaly. This was reported by the press service of the Regional Department of Health on Monday, July 20.

In February, a 50-year-old resident of Semiluksky District suffered a heart attack complicated by pulmonary edema. After the treatment, the man continued to complain of weakness, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, and chest pain. At the Voronezh Regional Clinical Hospital № 1, the patient was diagnosed with the rarest pathology: multivessel coronary artery disease with left ventricular remodeling and coronary-pulmonary fistula between the anterior interventricular artery and the pulmonary artery trunk. This is an extremely rare anomaly: it occurs in one person in half a million. Specialists of the Cardiac Surgery Center headed by Professor Sergei Kovalyov performed a successful operation. The man quickly recovered. After a course of rehabilitation, he was discharged and now is already returning to his usual life.

In early July, cardiac surgeons at the Voronezh Regional Clinical Hospital № 1 performed a surgery on a baby's heart. At the time of the surgery, the baby was only 23 days old.
